Area 51 was a United States Air Force military base about 80 miles North of Las Vegas, Nevada. Its operations were highly classified. Rumors that the base held alien lifeforms have long been popular. The base was shown at the beginning of Army of the Dead and will appear again in Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas. Deborah Snyder also mentioned the possibility of a spinoff based on Area 51.

History[]

When a mysterious portal to another world was discovered not far from Las Vegas, the United States government constructed Area 51 around it to hide it away from prying eyes and study the linked world found on the other side of it. Those involved named this world Xanadu, and in exploring this world, they discovered a race of beautiful, blue aliens that they dubbed Xanadites.[1] It was from this portal that the zombie infection came into the world, ultimately leading to the Las Vegas outbreak, which had catastrophic effects on Las Vegas. An article would later come out (seen on Marianne Peters' phone) titled: "Government Officials Deny Area 51 Breach." A team headed into the portal to try to find a cure for the zombie plague, but was unsuccessful. Two mysterious lights in the sky darted away from Area 51 when the trigger for the outbreak, Zeus, was carried away from the base.[2]
