Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas is an upcoming 3D-animated[1] series created by Zack Snyder and Jay Oliva. It will be available exclusively on Netflix.

The style will involve photorealistic settings with real-world-based lighting and camerawork, with somewhat stylized characters. Similar lighting and camera techniques to Army of the Dead will be used, including the tight focal depth of the dream lens. Each episode will be about 22 minutes, but some go on for longer. There are concepts for a second season, but a second season has yet to be announced.

The series is complete as an animatic, which is previsualization for animation, with the full voice performances. However, in an interview with Total Film, Snyder implied that the series is on hiatus or possibly canceled. He also confirmed a direct connection between Lost Vegas and his space fantasy, Rebel Moon.[2]

Synopsis[]

When Las Vegas falls to the zombie outbreak, Scott Ward and his rescue team will have to confront the source while protecting what they love.

Development[]

On September 3, 2020, Netflix announced that the world of Army of the Dead would be expanding with an anime series detailing the events of the initial outbreak. Shay Hatten would be writing with Jay Oliva showrunning. Oliva and Zack Snyder would each direct two episodes, while Zack, Jay, Shay, Deborah Snyder, and Wesley Coller would be executive producing. Dave Bautista, Ana De La Reguera, Tig Notaro, Omari Hardwick, and Ella Purnell would all return to voice their Army of the Dead characters.[3]

A month later, Deadline reported several new cast members, including Joe Manganiello, Christian Slater, Harry Lennix, Ross Butler, Anya Chalotra, Vanessa Hudgens, Jena Malone, Yetide Badaki, Monica Barbaro, Christina Wren, and Nolan North. [4]

On June 4, 2021, Zack Snyder confirmed that it would take two seasons to tell the story of Scott Ward and the Las Vengeance crew in order to fully connect to the events of Army of the Dead. He did not confirm there would be a second season.[5]

On July 21, 2021, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the series would be released in the spring of 2022, but this did not come to pass.[6] The series was briefly mentioned at Netflix Geeked Week 2022 after Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon video, but no updates were presented at the event. Jay Oliva later noted that he wasn't allowed to talk much about the series until a few months before it would be released, implying a late-2022 release at the earliest.[7]

When Netflix and General Motors formed a partnership to add GM's electric vehicles into upcoming series, Army of the Dead was one of the movies referenced by the commercial campaign. Lost Vegas being the next addition to the Armyverse, it's likely GM EVs will appear in some form in the series.
