Multilingualism was the ability to speak more than a single language. One could only converse with others who spoke the same language, so being able to speak more than one opened lines of communication to a potentially enormous degree.

Trilingualists[]

Korina

Korina Dominguez grew up speaking Brazillian Portuguese, but was also able to speak easily with her English-speaking allies in Gwendoline's heist crew. In addition to this, she spoke French so fluently that she was able to trick the manager of Bly's Casino into believing that she worked for Interpol, based in France. Korina was able to fluently speak at least these three languages.[1]

Bilingualists[]

English and Spanish
Maria Cruz

Maria Cruz spoke fluent Spanish and English. She used the latter while speaking with her Las Vengeance allies, all of whom also spoke English, while she used the former when speaking with her customers and employees.[2]

Mikey Guzman

Mikey Guzman spoke fluent Spanish and English. Most of his friends spoke Spanish, so he would speak it freely with them, while he filmed videos for his YouTube channel mostly in English for a broader audience.[2]

Antonio Leyba as Carlos

Carlos switched between Spanish and English while conversing with Mikey Guzman for Guz's YouTube channel.[2]

English and French
Beatrix

Beatrix spoke fluent French and English. She mostly used English for the sake of her English-speaking coworkers at Interpol, but occassionallly used her native French.[1]

Delacroix

Vincent Delacroix spoke fluent French and English. He mostly used English for the sake of his English-speaking coworkers at Interpol, but occassionallly used his native French.[1]

The Coyote

Lilly spoke fluent French and English. Her first language was French, while she mostly used English in the United States of America.[2]

Gwendoline

Gwendoline Starr spoke fluent English and French. While her first language was English, she used French effectively to communicate with the Parisians at Premiere Credit des Batignolles.[1]

English and German
Ludwig Dieter

Ludwig Dieter's first language was German, which he spoke most commonly in his home town of Potsdam. He was also fluent in English, which he used on multiple occasions, including teaming up with Gwendoline's heist crew and Las Vengeance, both groups predominantly speaking English. Dieter was known to make several minor mistakes when speaking English.[1][2]

Partial multilingualists[]

The following characters have used minor phrases beyond their native tongue, and may or may not speak a full second language.

Support group of thieves - The Bishop

The Bishop spoke English, but also used a small amount of French to quote or paraphrase Assane, who couldn't attend the meeting.[3]

Trivia[]

  • There are currently no known humans who are not capable of understanding at least one language. Such a person is very rare outside of infancy.
  • Zombies are incapable of all but the most rudimentary of language, and only alphas are capable of this.
