The underground mall was a mall in Las Vegas that was used to avoid walking the steets of the alpha territory during the Götterdämmerung heist in Army of the Dead.

History

Zombie wars

During the zombie wars, many civilians sought refuge in the mall. Among them was a group of Elvis Presley impersonators who eventually hanged themselves.

Lilly and the team move through the underground mall

The Las Vengeance heist team used the mall to travel through the territory of the Las Vegas horde without conflicting with the alphas. The mall had become filled with shamblers over the years, which had entered a state of hibernation due to lack of food. They sneaked through the crowds, trying not to wake them, but Chambers slowly woke the crowd and had to fight her way out. At the back of the line, she didn't put anyone else in danger, but she was unable to escape the mall herself.

Trivia

• Without any malls available for shooting, the production team of Army of the Dead added storefronts to a casino in Atlantic City to create a makeshift mall.
• The mall is located approximately in the real world location of the MGM Grand Conference Center. This can be determined by the crew's direction of travel, the distance to the conference center, and the fact that the parking structure seen behind the crew as they enter the mall matches the one behind the conference center.
• An advertisement for Larry Fong's show hangs above an entrance to the mall.
• Teen Titans Go! episode "365!" featured Zack Snyder as himself, with several references to his movies. One of these references was a short plot involving the Titans making their way through "hybernating zombies" (zoned-out extras on the set of a zombie film) before they're awakened and the Titans have to escape, just as the group had to do in the underground mall in Army of the Dead.
