"Thousands of protestors marched on the Capitol this morning in response to yesterday's historic congressional vote that narrowly ratified the controversial proposal to wipe out the remains of the so-called 'zombie wars,' which drew to a dramatic end with the U.S. military suffering massive casualties and being forced to retreat as Vegas was walled off with the zombies left inside to haunt the abandoned city."

The so-called zombie wars were a struggle between the U.S. military and the zombies that had taken over Las Vegas. The wars lasted only a few weeks before the city was closed off from the world. The wars were shown in the oening credits of Army of the Dead, were central to the plot of Army of the Dead: Viva Las Vengeance, and will also be central to the plot of Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas.

History[]

Las Vegas outbreak[]

The zombie wars began shortly after the initial outbreak in Las Vegas. The United States Air Force and United States Army sent troops in to protect the citizens and slow the spread of the zombie infection. They sent in tanks and paratroopers, but within days they were overrun and started bombing the zombie-filled streets with fighter jets. At that point the focus became containment rather than saving the city. The military was forced to wall off Las Vegas and vacate the city, leaving the zombies to roam freely behind the walls.[1][2]

Aftermath[]

With as many uninfected people vacated as could be done, Las Vegas was walled off, the zombies left to haunt its abandoned streets. Zeus formed a kingdom of alphas, who would take up residence in The Olympus from then on, occasionally coming into conflict with small groups of people who were usually in search of slot machines to crack and make some quick cash.[1]
